The annual christmas parade went on as it usually does and that’s in style. This year Mother nature blessed us with another beautiful night although some rain did fall it did not kill the spirits of the many people who showed up and cheered on as the different local stores and businesses passed by with there own decorated trailers as wells as local schools with their marching bands playing tunes as they marched through downtown. Also, who could forget about the main man himself, Santa Claus. He made his annual appearance spreading joy and happiness. In conclusion, the parade had another amazing year, spreading joy to all of those in attendance.

As far as vocal influences go, Whitney and Mariah pretty much cover it. I love Fergie as well. She’s just so fun and passionate. I love that she raps as well. Like, she has a fantastic voice and she can belt Gs and As and she doesn’t have to do it all the time. She just has swag and I think that’s really cool.”  said Ariana Grande. 5. Student Interview ~ Nora Craemer

By: Anna Lightner

Nora Craemer, exchange student from Hamm, Germany, arrived here in the states in September and will be here until the end of June. She has one sibling, a sister, Vera, who just turned 14. Nora knew that she would be coming to Staunton and attending Robert E. Lee High School, but she decided not to look up anything about our school in order to be surprised. Her first impression of Lee was that everyone was very welcoming and friendly. All the teachers are nice and are more like friends, whereas in Germany they would be strictly teachers. She then went on to say that high school in the movies is much different than in real life. For example, in the movies, the students always use their lockers, whereas here, we never really use them. She has gotten herself involved in many activities at Lee including playing varsity basketball this winter; she also looks forward to playing soccer this coming spring. As a true Lee High fan, when asked what her favorite sports team was, she answered, “Lee Ladies!!” Compared with Lee, her school in Germany has six, forty-five minute classes each day, and since the fifth grade, she has been with the same 25 classmates. Also different, the schools do not have sports teams; everything is through clubs.

This being her first time in America, she came with an open mind in order to not be disappointed. Her favorite thing so far has been the breakfast. Compared with the bread and jelly usually eaten in Germany, she enjoys the variety available here. Her favorite American actor and actress are Alex Pettyfer and Jennifer Lawrence, and her favorite singer is Adele. Her favorite song is an Adele hit, Set Fire to the Rain. Favorite movie? The Disney hit Frozen. And favorite TV show is The Vampires Diaries. While in America, Nora wishes to get fully involved in the culture and our American traditions. She also wants to see what an American Prom is like. She also wishes to spend another year here during college, and to her, the perfect job would be one where she could work in both Germany and America. If you see Nora in the halls or have a class with her, make sure to introduce yourself to this sweet and talented young lady!

6. School News

By: Kat Carr

Here is some updated school news for clubs and programs that continue year round, and a general rule of thumb. The Foreign Language Club visited King’s Daughter Nursing home at the end of November and will be discussing and participating in Mexican Tradition for the upcoming week, before the holiday break. SCA finished the Salvation Army Angels and received over 200 dollars in donations and many many toys. The Mr. Lee contest will be scheduled for February in the next semester and the boys powder puff volleyball game will return as well. NHS will continue the recycling program, plan for a NHS mural that will hopefully begin by the beginning of the next semester, and make and give holiday cards to local nursing homes. Some seniors have already been receiving acceptance letters into at least one of their top three colleges. Don’t forget to finish all of your applications on time, so you can also receive your letter.

7. Ishod Wair Skater of the Year

By: Jaylen William and Logan Losh

Two days before the announcement, Ishod, Justin Brock, Tim Zom and other Nike riders were in Paris for the European premiere of Nike SB’s Chronicles 2. Skater of the year is a huge deal to everyone in the skating industry. It’s kind of like winning a grammy or an oscar. Ishod was pretty stoked when he found out he was ranked skater of the year. He was happy that he got picked, but didn’t believe that he should have been picked. “My pick would be Cory Kennedy, because if you see that guy skate in real life, it’s just unbelievable. I don’t know what he’s had in the mags, but I think he’s had a lot in the mags”. This event went down in history because Ishod was the first black skater to be skater of the year. I dont think that it’s a racial matter, but there isn’t too many black skaters out that have the same skill as him. “People usually put out their craziest clips at the end of the year and i’ve just been skating and filming pretty much.” Ishod has great sportsmanship and he claims that if it would have been up to him he would not have been the winner.

8.Technology

By: Chastity via

Todays technology has changed drastically over the past decades.. Individuals back then did not have WIFI, hotspot, Iphones, Galaxys, or even tablets. So, to everyone that can not put their phones down.. imagine a world without technology and picture the only communication. A big bulky telephone. Cell phones and other gadgets have become not only flashy, but super expensive. At guestimation an Iphone 6 Gb 64 is at least 700 without contract and around 300 with a contract, That is absolutely crazy! So why do people buy these things? To be like everyone else? Run their parents credit cards dry? What I am trying to get to is, all the new technology today in 2014 are over exaggerated and over rated. These phones are super fragile, and at the littlest drop.. CRACK. Also, Crash reports? Battery life? Does anyone really get exactly what they deserve with that amount of money? It is absolutely outrageous, and the price is not worth the merchandise. If todays cell phone is over $700, Imagine a decade from now!

The people going out of town are primarily staying in the Commonwealth. Out of the people we interviewed, the furthest someone is going is Charleston, SC. Out of 32 people, only 13 are going out of town. The majority, 19 people, are going to stay in Staunton. No matter where you spend Christmas; make it a great one.
